About
Thengphakhri Digital Empowerment Program is an initiative of
the Govt. of Bodoland Territory Region (BTR). Under the
initiative, 420 women
'Champions' - one per VCDC -
will be recruited in the 420 Village Council Development
Committees (VCDCs) in the BTR. The Champions will be engaged
for two years (24 months) in their respective VCDCs. A
confluence of the concept of Womenโs Empowerment and
leadership and the need to deepen digital governance at the
grassroots level for a Smart Bodoland, this program
envisages that the Thengphakri Champions will work with the
local governance ecosystem to improve service delivery,
provide better access to information of new initiatives of
government at the grassroots level, ascertain implementation
of schemes & programmes and to collate feedback and
felt-needs for future planning. Besides helping ASHAs,
Anganwadi Workers, ANMs and members of CLFs/ VOs/ SHGs, they
will also work directly with community members to reduce the
digital divide among rural people. The Govt. of BTR will
support the champions through digital devices and build
their capacity to train and assist others at VCDC and
village levels. The overarching goal is to promote womenโs
empowerment, foster socio-economic growth, strengthen
grassroots governance, and bridge the gap between planners
and beneficiaries within the BTR region.
The idea is to promote people's participation at the
grassroots level in making development plans with the
support of all stakeholders by utilising the benefits of
digital technology. Strengthening the grassroots ecosystem
plays a pivotal role in eradicating poverty and improvement
of quality of life. As part of its plan to strengthen
grassroots governance and democracy, to make VCDCs more
effective, the Government of BTR has come up with the
'Thengphakri Digital Empowerment Program'
